Welcome To The Southern Illinois Crappie Association, Inc. Home Page for the 2006 Crappie USA Tournament on the Smithland Pool.

The SICA, Inc. has established this website to provide information about the Smithland-Olmstead Pools to those interested in fishing the Crappie USA Tournament sponsored by SICA, Inc. to be held on October 21, 2006.

The co-host motels and the pre-tournament site are the same as for the last tournament.  The weigh in site will  be at the square at the Massac County Courthouse in Metropolis.

The entry fee is set by Crappie USA and at the present time is $75.00 for the amateur division and $155.00 for the semi pro division, both entries include entry into the big fish pot.

WHERE IN THE WORLD ARE THE SMITHLAND-OLMSTEAD POOLS.
The Smithland-Olmstead Pools arelocated on the Ohio River in southeastern Illinois and border on Kentucky. From Interstate 24 take Illinois Route 146 to Golconda and the Smithland Pool. The Olmstead pool runs from the Smithland lock and dam to the Olmstead dam and can be accessed at Metropolis, Illinois located just off of Interstate 24.
The area of the Smithland Pool that can be fished runs from the newcastle dam in Indiana on the north 74miles to the Smithland Lock and Dam on the south and on west to the Olmstead dam west of Metropolis.

ABOUT THE SMITHLAND-OLMSTEAD POOLS.
The Smithland Pool of the Ohio River stretches from the Smithland Dam 74 miles to the northeast along the Ohio River to the Newcastle lock and dam in Indiana.  The legal fishing area for the tournament is from the Newcastle Dam to the Smithland Dam on to the Olmstead Dam and includes the Kentucky side of the River.
There are numerous creeks on both the Kentucky and Illinois side of the river that can be fished as well as the main river.
Safety is a paramount concern on the river due to floating debris and barge traffic.

TO FISH THE KENTUCKY SIDE OF THE RIVER YOU WILL NEED A KENTUCKY LICENSE.
